BiographyOna Marie York Greer, 97, of Dimmitt, formerly of Lubbock, passed away on Wed., July 21, 2010 in Dimmitt. Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 10:30AM in Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside Services will be held at 3:00PM in the City of Lubbock Cemetery in Lubbock TX under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Family visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00PM - 5:00Pm at the funeral home.Ona was born in Runnels County, near Winters TX, Dec. 13, 1912 to the late James Henderson and Roena Isabelle York. On Dec. 13, 1918, on her 6th birthday, Ona and her family moved to Lubbock County, 10 miles northeast of Lubbock, to a place called Badger Lake. In 1920 the family moved again to a farm east of the community of Monroe(later named New Deal). On March 4th, 1929 the family moved to Lubbock when Ona was 16 years old. She lived in Lubbock 76 years until 2005 when she moved to Dimmitt where her daughter lives and she resided there until her death. At the age of 22, Ona married Alfred B. Greer on June 30, 1935. Ona was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Trinity Fellowship Church in Lubbock. She attended the First Baptist Church in Dimmitt. She regularly attended the Senior Citizens in Lubbock and in Dimmitt. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She loved to crochet, play the piano, ball-room dancing and playing cards(Skip-Bo) and dominos(42), but most of all enjoyed being a mother. Ona is survived by 1 daughter, Vicki Eaton and husband Charles of Dimmitt, and 1 son, Tony Greer and Jennifer of Lubbock, 5 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren and 5 step great-great grandchildren. Ona is preceded in death by 1 son, Jimmy Duane Greer, 4 brothers, Julian Horace York, Jessie Hubert York, Raymond Dewey York, and Teddy York, 4 sisters, Cora Ethel Wells, Lola Mae Strawn, Mildred Ara Belle Greer, and Etta Lee Ray Celebration of Life Services
