Luis Peņa Sr., 79, of Nazareth, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at his home in Nazareth. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in the Immaculate Conception of Mary Catholic Church in Dimmitt with Rev. Ken Keller as celebrant. Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 6:00PM at the funeral home with Vigil service to follow.
Luis was born to Ramon and Gregoria Peņa on Dec. 15, 1932 in Crystal City, TX. Luis was a Castro County resident for 32 years after moving here from Indiana. He was a custodian for the Dimmitt ISD and the Nazareth ISD for a combined 30 years before retiring from Nazareth 10 years ago. He enjoyed traveling with his sons in their band Los Arcos HNOS. Peņa. He also enjoyed cooking out with family, gardening, and wrestling.
He is survived by 4 daughters, San Juanita Peņa, Amalia Rodriguez and husband Rey, all of Nazareth, Corina Flores and husband David of Victoria, TX, and Martina Galvan and husband Gilbert of Amarillo; 5 sons Luis Peņa Jr. and wife Lori, Gerardo Peņa and wife Sandy all of Dimmitt, Gilbert Peņa and wife JoAnn and Fidensio and wife Lisa all of Nazareth, and Larry Joe Peņa and wife Sandra of Amarillo; 1 brother, Doncio Peņa of Marian, Indiana, 53 grandchildren, and 50 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elvira Peņa, 2 sons, Jose Adam Peņa and Juan Ramon Peņa, 2 brothers Julian Peņa and Domingo Peņa.
