AL Gibbs, 97, of Dimmitt, Texas, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023, in Dimmitt, Texas. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at the Fourth & Bedford Church of Christ with King Burney officiating. Burial will follow at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 10, 2023, from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.

Alford Ray "AL" Gibbs was born on May 1, 1926, to Farney and Mintie (Roles) Gibbs in Clovis, New Mexico. He attended elementary and high school in Fields, New Mexico. AL met Anna D. (Bradley) Gibbs in Melrose, New Mexico, and they married on January 31, 1944, they were married for 78 wonderful years. AL entered the United States Air Force in 1944 and proudly served his country. AL worked as a seismograph technician for Mobile Oil in South Texas. AL and Anna D moved to Dimmitt in 1961, where AL was the manager of Dimmitt Consumers. He worked there for 27 years until his retirement. AL was a longtime member of the Fourth & Bedford Church of Christ and the Dimmitt Rotary Club member.

AL enjoyed riding motorcycles and dirt bikes, guns, deer hunting, fishing, and going to the mountains. He and Anna D were a part of the Geritol group, a group of seniors who rode motorcycles to different communities to have dinner. AL and Anna D also loved to travel to the mountains, pulling their 36 ft. fifth-wheel travel trailer. He loved spending time with his family and grandsons. AL was ornery, friendly, and always busy working around the house or helping those in need.

Those left to cherish his memories are his two daughters, Ginger Scarborough of Dimmitt, and Linda Gross of Amarillo; three grandsons, Troy Gross and his wife Paula of Dimmitt, Greg Gross of Spearman, and Jason Gross and his wife Sara of Amarillo; seven great-grandchildren, John Gross, Jeff Gross, Cameron Gross, Connor Gross, Kyson Gross, Keagan Compton, and Kaitlyn Compton.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, six sisters, and two son-in-laws Don Scarborough and Tommy John Gross.
