Ann Henderson, 73, of Dimmitt passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 in Herford, TX. Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 10:00AM in the First Baptist Church in Dimmitt with James Peach and Billy Joe Wall officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park in Dimmitt under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home. Family visitation will be held from on Wednesday from 6:00PM - 8:00PM at the funeral home. Ann was born on July 4, 1938 in Clarksville, TX to Dero Wooten and Willie Mae Sargent. Ann graduated from Hart High School and was a resident of Dimmitt since 1962. She was a phone operator for many years in Dimmitt. She and her husband were members of the Jaycee's in Castro County, Dimmitt Promenaders and Nazareth Curly Q. She was Treasurer for many years for the Castro County Fair Board and volunteered most of her time organizing for the fair. She was owner of Henderson's Greenhouse and U-Haul for 15 years and volunteered for the Home Extension Office. In 2005 she founded Castro County Cares, which provides the Soldiers with items of necessity along with her Special Peanut Brittle and Popcorn; Castro County Cares also has a non-profit thrift store that also benefits the Soldiers. Ann's last request was to keep the thrift store open until all the Soldiers come home, and for the store to continue to benefit for the care of the Soldiers. The thrift store could have never happened without the help of several people that she wanted mentioned; Gloria Hernandez, Thomasa Leal, Oralia Valles, Cuca Ortega, Maria Flores, Fernanda Rivera and Nick and Tristan Hernandez. Ann most recently was a big help to her daughter Janie Ward at Janie's Place in Hereford. Ann is survived by her children; Debbie Morgan of Hereford, Jimmy Henderson of Tulia, Marshall Henderson of Dimmitt, Janie Ward of Hereford, John Henderson of Dimmitt and Karen Hoelscher of Wylie. One brother, Dero Wooten Sargent of Thornton, CO. 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
