Bettye Huckabay, 88, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015 in Dimmitt Texas. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2:00PM in the First United Methodist Church in Dimmitt with Rev. T.C. Broom and Colby Gilbreath officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Dimmitt under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home. Family visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6:00PM - 8:00PM at the funeral home. Bettye was born on May 13, 1926 in Wellington, TX to Vernon and Katy Newton. Bettye grew up in Dimmitt and graduated from Dimmitt High School. She worked for Swain-Burkett and Ross from 1943-1944. She attended Texas Tech University when she was 18 and studied Home Economics. She married Robert "Bob" Huckabay in 1945 in El Paso, shortly thereafter she attended the University of Texas from 1946-1948. She and Bob moved to Lubbock in 1949 and lived there until 1955, shortly after moving to Morton for a few years. In 1957 they moved back to Dimmitt where she and Bob had owned and operated Abstract and Real Estate Insurance till 1980. In 1980 she went to work for Burkett and Ross Law Firm for 18 years, retiring in 1998. Bettye was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Dimmitt. She loved to cook for her family, enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with her friends and enjoyed fine arts. She is survived by her 2 children, a son Ron Huckabay and his wife Charlotte of Andrews and a daughter Kathy Trout-Revier and her husband Robert of Lubbock. 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert "Bob" Huckabay and one daughter Alissa Jane Perkins.
