Billy T Martin, 80, of Dimmitt departed this life to spend with his beloved wife Nona, on her birthday, Friday, September 11, 2015 in Dimmitt. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt with Rev. Bobby Campbell and Rev. Jonathan Sullivan officiating, burial to follow at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00PM at the funeral home. Billy was born April 24, 1935 in Sherman, Texas to William Thomas and Esther G. Martin. Billy was a lifelong resident of the Dimmitt area. He married Nona Patterson on November 11, 1957 at Frio Baptist Church in Frio, Texas. He retired in 1998 from farming where he had worked for several farm owners, but the longest was for Homer and Bud Hill for the last 45 years before his retirement. After retiring he continued his passion of farming by growing and sharing his bountiful vegetable garden with his family, friends and neighbors. Billy also loved spending time with family and friends playing cards and especially dominoes. When playing dominoes he could often be heard saying, "Make sure to mark my 25 points!" even if it was only 5 points he'd earned. He is survived by his and Nona's four children, Sandy Mapps, Curtis Martin and his wife Sarah, Billy Don Martin and his wife Karen, and Jennifer Howell and her husband Jeff all of Dimmitt. 2 brothers Leon Martin of Belen, N.M. and Gerald Jameson of Oklahoma City, OK and 2 sisters Joyce Walker of Amarillo and Jane Ryan of Wilson. Texas; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and more children that called him "Papa" than could ever be counted. He is preceded in death by his wife Nona, his twin boys, his parents, 5 sisters Betty, Mary, Shirley, Merrill Alyne and Ruby and a brother Ronald Martin.
