Carl Lee Kemp, 77, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on Monday, October 14, 2019 in Dimmitt. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at 10:30AM in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Eliezer Gurrado officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00PM in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home.
Carl Lee Kemp was born on March 3, 1942 in Dimmitt, Texas to Carl Echols Kemp and Mary Louise (Witlow) Kemp. Carl had fought a long battle with diabetes, but recently found a peaceful home returning to Dimmitt from Amarillo. Carl grew up in Dimmitt and graduated from Dimmitt High School and continued his education from West Texas State University where he graduated. He loved his fraternity brothers in the ATO Fraternity. Obviously, much fun was had on the Canyon campus during that time. Later, Carl farmed, ranched and owned a cattle trucking company while also being a licensed insurance agent for Equitable Life. Carl's greatest joy was his race horses. Carl served as past President of the Ruidoso Downs in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Carl is survived by his sister, LaDawn Reichling, step-daughters, Shannon Hailey and Shawn Maurice, step-sons, Burt Zinser and Duke Zinser, grandchildren, Eliza, Txai, Sophia and Benjamin and a niece, Jinsie Preddy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Louise Kemp, son, Korey Kemp and a sister Ginger Ward.
