Carl L. King, 87, of Dimmitt passed away Monday, November 7, 2011 in Dimmitt. Funeral services will be Friday, November 11, 2011 at Fourth and Bedford Church of Christ in Dimmitt at 10:00 AM with James Jones officiating and burial at West Lawn Memorial Park in Dimmitt. Family visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8PM at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Carl was born October 26, 1924 in Cotton Center, Texas to Leander and Nana King. Carl graduated from Cotton Center High School and shortly after enlisted in the Navy. He married Francis King on Feb.17th in Lubbock, Texas. They moved to a farm in Nazareth and Carl started his farming career. He founded American Corn Growers in the early 70's and it has evolved to American Corn Growers out of Washington, D.C. In 2005 he sold the farm and retired from farming. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Sons of Confederate Veterans and was the 31st District Committee Man for the Democratic Party. He was a Politician. He was a member of 4th and Bedford Church of Christ of Dimmitt. He was known to everyone as Papa and was so Proud of his children and especially his grandchildren. His world revolved around them and theirs around him. He taught his children to be self sufficient. He was the rock for his family and taught them to never give up. He is survived by his wife Frances King of Hereford; one son Steve King of Odessa; two daughters Janet Lindsey of Hohenwald, TN and Carla Sappington of Canyon. One sister Kathleen Bailey of Lubbock. Five grandchildren; Kyle Pool of Washington, D.C., Kelly Pool of McKinney, Kendra Paxton of Midland, Kevin King of Frisco and Jeremy Wilkins of Canyon. Three Great Grandchildren.
