Carter Townsend's Obituary
Carter Glenn Townsend, 72, was called Home on May 21, 2018, on his new assignment as a resident photographer for Heaven. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 27, 2018 at the Fourth and Bedford Church of Christ in Dimmitt, Texas with James Jones and Bailey Chisum officiating. Burial will follow at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dimmitt under the care of Colonial Funeral Home.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Colonial Funeral Home in Dimmitt, Texas.
Carter was born March 10, 1946, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Otis and Jimmie (Joel) Townsend. He graduated from Provine High School in Jackson in 1964. He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971. He graduated from Abilene Christian College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972 and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1974. While at Abilene Christian, he met and married the love of his life, Diane Webb, on November 18, 1972. Carter and Diane moved to Dimmitt, Texas, in 1977. They were blessed with 45 ½ years of marriage and two sons, Joel born in 1978 and Jared born in 1980.
Carter worked in the field of accounting and finance in Louisiana and Texas until he retired in 2016 from Amarillo Wealth Management in Amarillo, Texas. He was a faithful member of the Fourth and Bedford Church of Christ where he taught classes for all ages. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible and was active in all areas of church work. He enjoyed reading and taking pictures. He was a familiar face on the sidelines of many events in Dimmitt and Nazareth. He loved to share his pictures with many in the communities.
Carter loved his family and looked forward to any time he could spend time with them participating in their activities, especially his two grandsons. He always made time to sit and visit with his friends and family and share his knowledge on many topics. His wisdom, sense of humor and stories will be remembered by all those who were fortunate to know and love him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; their two sons: Joel Townsend and wife, Lisa, of Fort Worth and Jared Townsend and wife, Ashley, of Lubbock; two grandsons: Kason and Bradley Townsend of Lubbock; brother in law: Gary Webb and wife, Rhenea, of Dimmitt, and their family: as well as numerous friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the Children's Home of Lubbock, PO Box 2824, Lubbock, TX 79408.
