Delbert Glen Scott, 93, of Clovis, formally of Dimmitt, entered his eternal rest on January 29, 2011 in Clovis. Graveside Services will be held on Monday at 11:00AM in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dimmitt, TX with Rev. Derrel Evins officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00AM up until service time Monday at Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home. Delbert, also known affectionately as "Scott" or "Scotty", was born in Sulphur Springs on Nov. 8, 1917 to Henry and Goldie Scott. A member of the "greatest generation", Scott's passion and resilience overcame the hardships of the Great Depression, World War II, and personal tragedies to leave behind a legacy of excellence, integrity and loyal friendship. As a teenager, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps where he earned money to support his parents and siblings while building numerous civic projects. When duty called, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the SEABEES and aboard the USS Mellena in the Pacific theater of operations until receiving his honorable discharge in Nov., 1945. After the War, Scott set out to become the best barber possible. He successfully barbered for many years in Hereford, TX until forced to change careers due to health. Scott used his knack for conversation and handsome looks to transition him to the career that would become his life's call---selling cars and trucks. He was a gifted salesman and found success in selling Cadillac, Oldsmobile, and Pontiacs first for Wayne Wallace of Clovis, NM and later for his lifelong friend and associate, J.L. Marcum, at dealerships in Hereford, and Littlefield, TX. In 1966, Scott and his wife Lois, his love and inspiration, moved from Hereford to Dimmitt, TX where they opened up their own used car lot, Highway Auto Sales. Scott remained a "car Jockey" long after Highway Auto Sales closed its doors, and sold his last used pickup truck at the ripe old age of 85. The Scotts were enduring members of the Dimmitt community where they made many lifelong friends. They were members of the First United Methodist Church. Scott was also active in the Scottish Rite Temple in Hereford. Scott is survived by a step-son, James H. Ells and wife Cecelia of Yorktown VA, 4 grandchildren, Christopher Glen Scott and wife Jodie of Cisco, TX, J.B. Ells , Callie Ells, and Matthew Ells all of Yorktown, VA, 2 Great-grand children Celie and Brylie Scott of Cisco, TX and a daughter-in-law Christine Back and husband Larry of Canyon, TX, sister-in-law Dorothy Humphrey. He is preceded in death by his parents, his spouse, Lois Humphrey Scott, 1 son Terry Glen Scott, 3 brothers, Homer, Melvin and Jimmie Dee Scott, and 1 sister, Lula Dee Anderson A special "Thank You" to Clovis Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and B.J.
