Don Cornett, 78, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on February 6, 2016 in Dimmitt, Texas. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 10:00AM in the Fourth & Bedford Church of Christ with Mr. James Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at the funeral home.

Don was born on November 18, 1937 in Silverton, Texas to the late Onar and Elsie Cornett. Don was raised in Silverton and graduated from Silverton High School and then attended Abilene Christian University. Later he became co-owner of the John Deere dealership in Silverton until 1983. His time spent in Silverton was nothing short of active and impactful to the community. Don was a longstanding and prominent member of the Silverton Church of Christ. He was actively involved as a school board member, but his involvement didn't end there. He channeled his passion for raising and showing livestock to help young people develop the necessary skills needed to succeed in life. After his time in Silverton, he moved to Dimmitt, Texas where he continued his career in the implement business for John Deere. Upon his retirement from John Deere, he established Choice Realty and remained in the real estate business for the remainder of his life. His life in Dimmitt was a new chapter, but most importantly a continuation of the foundation and principles he had built in Silverton. He met Shirley Underwood and they were married on April 22, 1988. Together, they picked up the game of golf. With the undeniable determination and competiveness he embodied, he became passionate about the game and cherished every moment spent on the golf course with his family and friends. He will be remembered for the love and compassion he had for those around him.

Don is survived by his wife, Shirley Cornett of Dimmitt, sons, Tad Cornett and wife Cindi of Lubbock, Mike Cornett and wife Jackie, Danny Underwood and wife Debbie, and Roger Underwood all of Dimmitt, daughters, Kim McPherson and husband Bob of Wellington, Shellie Powell and husband Jeff of Lubbock and Brenda Porsch and husband Willie of Dimmitt, sister, Brenda Patton and husband Jerry of Silverton, grandsons, Tyler Cornett, Landon Lamb, Jake Porsch, Bryce Parker, Dennis Underwood, Landon Porsch, David Underwood and Schuler Underwood, granddaughters, Taber Black, Jade McPherson, Blythe McPherson, Makenzie Braidfoot, Bree Cornett and Brooke Parker, great-grandchildren, Dallan Black and Mayli Black.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Mickey Cornett and his wife Pat, and a granddaughter, Kami Denae Porsch.
