Don Hargrove, 91, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2019 in Dimmitt. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 28, 2019 at 1:00PM in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. T.C. Broom officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home.
Don Hargrove was born on January 31, 1928 in Joy, Texas to Elvis Valentine Hargrove and Annie Laura (Laughon) Hargrove. Don moved to the Dimmitt community when he was 16 years old and graduated from Dimmitt High School. After graduation, Don drove a truck for a short time before enlisting in the United States Army. During his time in the Army, Don served as a medic during his first tour and then later decided to be a mechanic during his second tour. During this time Don married Mae (Key) Hargrove on December 22, 1952 in Clovis, New Mexico while Don was on leave. Being discharged from the Army, Don moved back to Dimmitt and began working as a builder. The first building that he built was Dr. Vandiver's office and then he later specialized in custom homes. Don was a self-taught architect and loved to draw out the house plans for his clients. Don was a longtime member of the VFW. Don will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Don is survived by his wife, Mae Hargrove of Dimmitt, TX, daughters, Deana Beames and husband Tony of Dimmitt, TX and Laura Ethridge and husband Roy of Colorado Springs, CO, 1 sister, Betty Pugh and husband James of Spearman, TX along with 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Hazel Britt and a brother, Lee Roy Hargrove.
