Doris Evelyn Finck Lust (Mema) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, after a brief illness. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Dimmitt with Rev. Eliezer Garrido and Rev. Paul Kenley officiating. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas. Visitation will be on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Doris was born on July 25, 1921, in Tulia, Texas, to Joe and Edna Finck, the oldest of five. Doris graduated from Tulia High School in 1938. She worked a year prior to attending college to help the family and have money for school. Doris graduated from West Texas College in 1944 with a teaching degree and married Houston Lust on September 14, 1947. Houston and Doris farmed in the Bethel community for over 60 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Senior Citizens, Friendship Quilt Guild, Thursday Bridge Club, Home Demonstration Club, and Hospital Auxiliary. Doris was one of the founding members of the Ogallala Quilt Society. The Dimmitt Chamber of Commerce honored Houston and Doris by naming them Citizens Through the Years.
Doris is survived by three daughters: Sue Summers and husband Charles of Dimmitt, Ann Cayton and husband Keith of Mesa, AZ., and Flo Touchstone of Lubbock and daughter-in-law Carol Lust of Canyon, Texas. She is blessed with 31 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Houston, and her sons Joe and Rex Lust, sister Lonella Avent, three brothers, Alva, Norman, and Orville Finck.
Doris always strived to bless others. In lieu of flowers, please bless others with memorials to Dimmitt First United Methodist Church, Castro Memorial Gardens, Dimmitt Senior Citizens, or the organization of your choice.
