Elodia B. Martinez, 76, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018 in Dimmitt, Texas.  Rosary will be recited on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 6:00 PM in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Anthony Neusch and Deacon John Niño as celebrants.  Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

Elodia was born to Cesario and Petra Barrera on December 22, 1941 in La Feria, Texas.  She was the third child out of ten children.  She moved to Dimmitt in 1952 where she worked with Floyd Dickey at Vaughn Café, Ann's Steakhouse, Dimmitt Nursing Home and Allsups.  After leaving her last job, she cared for Mrs. Jess "Aunt Mae" Wright from 1985-1988.  She enjoyed sewing for her children, cooking, listening to conjunto music and dancing.  She loved cruising the streets of Dimmitt.  She also enjoyed having Sunday breakfast with her family and sitting outside her front porch eating ice cream on hot summer days with her husband.  She also enjoyed holiday family gatherings, but her most favorite enjoyment was waking up early in the morning and feeding her chickens and ducks.  Her grandchildren enjoyed spending time with her and listening to stories about her younger days.  She was a member of the Immaculate Conception of Mary Catholic Church of Dimmitt.  Elodia will best be remembered for her friendliness and her laughter.  Her grandchildren will miss their "Memo" and she will forever be in the hearts of her family.

Elodia is survived by her spouse, Juan Martinez of Dimmitt, 5 children, Rosa Linda Martinez and husband David of Dimmitt, Rebecca Martinez of Dimmitt, Janie Martinez and husband Joe of Dimmitt, Juan Martinez Jr. and wife Tonya of Lubbock and Melissa Cruz and husband Juan of Dimmitt, 2 brothers, Eddie Barrera and wife Charlene of Dimmitt and Emilio Barrera and wife Dora of Amarillo, 4 sisters, Amelia Gutierrez, Maria Puente, Gloria Montoya all of Dimmitt and Adela Acevedo and husband Henry of Georgetown, 16 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Elodia is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Petra Barrera, 2 brothers, Benny Barrera and Robert Barrera, 1 sister, Maria Antonia Diaz.
