Fermin Sam Fernandez, 76, of Dimmitt, Texas, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, in Dimmitt.

Sam was born on March 25, 1949, in Carrizo Springs, Texas, to Genaro and Amelia (Cruz) Fernandez. He has been a resident of Dimmitt, Texas, for 50-plus years. Sam was a hard worker and took great pride in his job as a farmer. He always looked forward to the start and finish of harvest season and the fulfillment and worth it brought to his work. Sam enjoyed time outdoors, caring for his vegetable garden and peach trees, and going hunting. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends and was known to many as "Uncle Sam".

Those left to cherish his memories are his four children, Fermin Fernandez and wife Amanda of Tulia, Texas; Farren Fernandez and wife Jada of Amarillo, Texas, Samantha Dominguez and fiancé Mark Rogers of Hereford, Texas; and Samara Fernandez and husband David Moore of Amarillo, Texas; five grandchildren, Meagan Fernandez, Serenity Fernandez, Cole Fernandez, Lindsey Fernandez, and Major Fernandez; four great grandchildren; brothers, Genaro Fernandez and wife Stella, Fernando Fernandez and wife Gloria, Paul Fernandez and wife Pansy, George Fernandez and wife Delores, Arnulfo Fernandez, Herman Fernandez, Albert Fernandez and wife Alicia, and Gilbert Fernandez; sisters, Eva Fernandez Solis, Angie Fernandez Barrandey and husband Raymond, Suzie Fernandez Stanton, Lena Fernandez Keeth, and Linda Fernandez McCarthy; dearest nephew and friend Eddie Fernandez and wife Heidi, niece Amanda Flores; and many more loved nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Genaro and Amelia Fernandez.

A Celebration of Life Service honoring Sam will be on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Colonial Funeral Home in Dimmitt, Texas, with Pastor Todd McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dimmitt, under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home. A Family and Friend visitation will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 5:00 -7:00 PM at the funeral home.
