Gabriel Montiel Sr., 77, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on December 9, 2019 in Dimmitt.  Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 1:00PM in Primera Iglesia Bautista in Dimmitt with Pastor Fernando Fernandez officiating.  Burial will follow in Olton Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at the funeral home.

Gabriel was born on March 24, 1942 in Durango, Mexico to Jose Montiel and Hermelinda (Nunez) Montiel.  Gabriel moved to the United States at a young age.  He farmed for over 20 years for John Gilbreath and then he began to weld and later started "Gabriel Montiel Construction and Welding" which he owned and operated for several years.  Gabriel never had a formal education, but learned from his father and his life experience on becoming successful.  Gabriel married Marie Willars on August 9, 1959 in Marlin, Texas and was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Dimmitt.  Gabriel will always be remembered for his favorite color being red and having a Jack Daniels and coke occasionally.

Gabriel is survived by 6 brothers, Juan Montiel of Portales, NM, Encarnación Montiel of Portales, NM, Jesse Montiel of Muleshoe, TX, Ben Montiel of Hart, TX, Domingo Montiel of Dimmitt, TX and Mike Montiel of Clovis, NM, 3 sisters, Hermelinda Sanchez, Gloria Montiel and Juanita Montiel all of Portales, NM, 8 grandchildren, Angela Montiel Maldonado of Dimmitt, TX, Elizabeth Montiel of Hutto, TX, Regina Montiel of San Antonio, TX, Gabrielle Montiel of Hutto, TX, Danielle Williams of San Antonio, TX, Maribel Montiel of Austin, TX, Christian Montiel of Cotulla, TX and Gabriel Montiel of Amarillo, TX, 10 great-grandchildren.

Gabriel is preceded in death by his wife, Marie Montiel, 3 sons, David Montiel, Gabriel Montiel Jr., and Daniel Montiel and daughter, Denise Montiel.
