Gerald Melvin Summers, 73, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, November 5, 2017 in Dimmitt, Texas.  Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday,  November  9, 2017 at 2:00PM in the First United Methodist Church  with Donnie George, Curt Summers and Guy Warren officiating. Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the trust of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at the funeral home.

Gerald was born on March 11, 1944 in Shamrock, Texas to Leo Melvin Summers and Juanita (Lamb) Summers. Gerald was a member of the Dimmitt community his entire life while graduating from Dimmitt High School in 1962.  Gerald grew up as a member of the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt, than became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dimmitt.  He married Patricia Ann George on July 23, 1965 in Plainview, Texas.  Gerald worked for Dimmitt Co-op from 1963-1964.  He then worked at Western Ammonia from 1964-1965.  In 1966 Gerald and his family moved to the farm and began farming south of Dimmitt through 2009.  Gerald worked for Castro Co-op Gin for a number of years and sold NC+ seed.  He and Patty owned and operated Video Magic in Dimmitt for 11 years.   His passion was making a fair deal for his customers and friends in selling farm equipment through John Deere and in his last 13 years with Case IH while managing WB Equipment in Dimmitt.

Gerald enjoyed many things through life.  In his early years he loved roping and horses and was a member of the Dimmitt Rodeo Club.  He enjoyed playing golf and playing in numerous golf tournaments and meeting many new friends.  After his son was born, Gerald began collecting toy tractors which became a passion for the past 45 years.  He also enjoyed playing Hold "EM with great friends in Dimmitt, Hart, Nazareth, Tulia and Happy.  But most importantly, he loved attending the things that his children and grandchildren enjoyed while watching them play basketball, football, volleyball, roping, cheerleading, and all other activities.  Gerald loved his family and loved when his great-grandchild, Jayce would come and visit.

Gerald is survived by his spouse, Patty Summers of Dimmitt, children, Camille Williams and husband Andy of Lubbock, TX, Carla Schilling and husband Roy of Dimmitt, TX, Curt Summers of Seminole, TX, Candice Moke and husband Trampas of Sublette, KS and Pattie Kaye Lutz and husband Jason of Rosenberg, TX, Grandchildren, Chance Schilling and fiancé Bella Greenwell of Dimmitt, TX, Keila Schilling of Dalhart, TX, Kelsey Waggoner and husband Tyler of Nazareth, TX, Colton O'Brien of Lubbock, TX, Chase Summers of Lewisville, TX, Carsyn O'Brien of Lubbock, TX, Kaitlyn Summers of Lubbock, TX, Alexa Brain of Sublette, KS, Lillian and Kimberlea Moke of Sublette, KS and Gunner and Stryker Lutz of Rosenberg, TX, Great-Grandson, Jayce Schilling of Nazareth, TX and a Great Grand-daughter on the way due January 2018, Hadley Faith Waggoner of Nazareth, TX, brother, Charles Summers and wife Sue of Dimmitt, TX, brother-in-law, Dubby George and wife Pauline of Dimmitt, TX, sister-in-law, Kathryn Warren and husband Guy of Cypress, TX, Aunts, Betty Ruth Bradley and husband Jimmy of Weatherford, TX and Oney Lee Taylor and husband Tommy of Phoenix, AZ along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Juanita Summers and grandparents, Ross and Rachel Summers and Archie and Bessie Lamb.
