Guadalupe "Lupe" De Jesus Acevedo, 63, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on Friday, November 8, 2019 in Dimmitt. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 11:00 AM with Father Arockiaraj Malapady, Deacon John Niño and Deacon Richard Martinez as celebrants. Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dimmitt, Texas under the care of Colonial Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at 6:00PM in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with vigil service following.
Lupe Acevedo was born December 9, 1955 in Rio Bravo, Mexico to Sabastian Acevedo Rojas and Marcelina (Garcia) Acevedo. Lupe moved to Dimmitt, Texas at the age of 8 years old. He attended school in Dimmitt and graduated from Dimmitt High School. He then attended South Plains College and Texas Tech University and graduated from West Texas A&M University in Canyon. Lupe taught school in El Paso for 3 years before returning to Dimmitt where he taught for 30 years prior to his retirement in 2014. Lupe married Teresa Maltos in October of 1988 in Dimmitt. Lupe enjoyed cooking out with family and friends while visiting, listening to music, wood working and spending time with his family. Lupe loved teaching and touched many lives throughout his teaching career and will be dearly missed.
Lupe is survived by his wife, Teresa Acevedo of Dimmitt, 3 sons, Miguel Maltos and wife Erika, Gerardo Acevedo and Manuel Acevedo all of Amarillo, 3 brothers, George Acevedo of Dimmitt, Miguel Angel Acevedo and wife Julie of Dayton, Ohio and Luis Acevedo and wife Olga of Dimmitt, daughter-in-law, Vanessa Acevedo and 6 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Minerva Ortiz and Teresa Longoria.
