Harriett Goodwin, 88, of Dimmitt passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2015 in Dimmitt. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 2:30PM in the First United Methodist Church with T.C. Broom officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home. Harriett was born June 15, 1926 in Princeton, Illinois to Nelson William and Elizabeth Stephenson. Harriett and her family moved to Dimmitt when she was six years old. She married Johnny Goodwin on July 16, 1943 in Clovis, NM. She worked at First State Bank, John Deere and Harmon's. She and Johnny moved to El Paso in 1962. While in El Paso she worked for Walgreens and for a few banks. In 1966 she attended UTEP in El Paso and received her teaching degree. She taught 4th grade at Ysleta Elementary School in El Paso and in Booker, Texas. In 1982 she and Johnny moved to Beaver, OK. where she was the Beaver County librarian. In 1999 they moved back to Dimmitt making this their home. Harriett enjoyed painting and was a great artist. She wrote children stories, loved to read, she enjoyed country music and polka music, and she played the piano occasionally and the fiddle. Harriet is survived by her husband, Johnny Goodwin of Dimmitt, 1 son, Johnny Dwayne Goodwin and wife Daphne of Berthoud, CO, and a son-in-law, Stanley Nelson and wife Cathy of Dimmitt, 6 grandchildren, Roy Scott Nelson, Lisa Gayle Morgan, Laura Lee Nelson, Leslie Lynn Nelson, Nicholas Dain Goodwin and Mark Edward Goodwin and eleven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Elizabeth Stephenson, a daughter, Connie Lee Nelson, a brother, Nelson William Stephenson, and a step-brother, Robert Huckabay.
