James Fulton "Jim" Cleavinger, 90, of Dimmitt went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Dimmitt with Rev. T.C. Boom officiating.  Burial will follow at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  The family will receive guests for visitation from 5:00-7:00 Friday, December 14, 2018 at Colonial Funeral Home.

Jim was born on January 8, 1928 to Norman and Gladys (Axtell) Cleavinger and was raised on the family farm in the Springlake Community.  He graduated from Springlake High School in 1945.  He then attended Texas Tech University, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950.  He then enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1952.  Upon retiring from the Army he began working in the family John Deere business.  He then began his business, C&S Battery and Electric in Dimmitt in 1985 with Cary Jackson, retiring in 2015.  Jim was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School, served as head usher until 2016 and served on many church committees.  During the 1960's and 70's, he was a Boy Scout leader for troop 266 in Dimmitt.  In 1993, he was inducted into the Haynes District Boy Scout Hall of Fame in Plainview.

Jim married Ina Lewis Cleavinger on June 11, 1955 in Nolan, TX.  They have been married 63 years and lived in Dimmitt all of their years.  Together they had 2 sons, Tommy of Dimmitt and Jimmy of Baytown.  Throughout the years, they enjoyed dancing at the Amarillo Senior Citizen's Center.  In his free time, he loved to golf and fish.

Jim is survived by his wife, Ina Cleavinger of Dimmitt; 2 sons, Tommy Cleavinger and wife Dianna of Dimmitt and Jimmy Cleavinger and wife TerrieLynn of Baytown; 9 grandchildren, Zeke Cleavinger and spouse Melanie, Candace Cleavinger and spouse Cyndi, David Cleavinger, Audrey Cleavinger, Rachel Cleavinger, Nathan Cleavinger, Victoria Cleavinger, Ruth Cleavinger and Julie Cleavinger; 2 step-grandchildren, Stevie Valdez and Aaron Hayes; 11 great grandchildren, Ayden, Evan, Tristin, Brayden, Gaby, Lyncoln, Kayden, Addyson, Ryder, Kenna and Chase and 2 sisters, Norma Dawson of Lubbock and Lois Wales and husband Charles of Dimmitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carole Dyer and 2 brothers, Ronald Cleavinger and Orville Cleavinger.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Dimmitt First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
