Jerome Brockman of Nazareth, a permanent Deacon of the Amarillo Catholic Diocese, passed away peacefully at the age of 92, with his seven children by his side on June 14, 2020, the Feast of Corpus Christi.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 in the Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Bhaskar Adusupalli, Deacon Bob Birkenfeld and Deacon Joe Hochstein as celebrants. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Vigil service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at 7:00PM in the church.
Jerome was ordained as a deacon in 1977 and dedicated much of his life to activities of the Catholic Church. He relished teaching bible classes and enabling young and old to enter the Catholic faith through baptisms and RCIA classes. In addition to his church involvement, he was very active in numerous civic organizations. He was never in the service, but he was a consummate man of service. He served on the board of directors for Dimmitt Agri Industries for 6 years and 30,000 airline miles and Plains Memorial Hospital Board. He was instrumental in developing several community projects, including Nazareth Lion's Club, Nazareth German Festival, Holy Family Christmas Pageant, the Dimmitt Gazebo and the City of Nazareth Park, for which he built the water wheel. Other notable community involvement included leadership roles in the Knights of Columbus and the PTA as well as being a dedicated blood donor and advocate.
Some of Jerome's cherished experiences were visiting Rome and the Holy Land, receiving Holy Communion from Pope John Paul II in Des Moines, Iowa and spending time with his children and extended family. After retiring from farming, he worked at Ed Harris Lumber Company and Dimmitt Ready Mix. Additionally, he managed the Sears Catalog Store in Dimmitt and sold insurance for Catholic Life Insurance.
Jerome enjoyed reading, making wooden toys (lots of wooden toys!), playing cards (winning his last card game, played only two days prior to his death) and games with family, working word and jigsaw puzzles and as he would often say, "I just like to fix things."

Jerome is survived by his children: Jim Brockman of Hereford, Geri Russell and husband Ron of Canyon, Kathy Yarbrough and husband Calvin of Fredericksburg, Joe Brockman and wife Margie of Bulverde, Paul Brockman of Canyon, Ken Brockman and wife Mary of Mesa, Arizona, Teresa Sewell and husband Kelly of Nazareth. Survivors also include a sister, Irene "Chunky" Wilhelm and Cyril "Stump" Brockman and wife Mitzie of Nazareth and sister-in-law Judy Brockman of Lazbuddie; sister-in-law Elsie Schilling of Slaton; 18 grandchildren – Kyle, Tyson, and Matthew Russell; Robert, Libby Matthews, Chris, and Brian Brockman; Amy Mullins and Chad Yarbrough; Ryan, Cavan and Tyler Brockman; Natalie and Kate Brockman; Evan, Ian, Oran, and Upton Sewell; 10 great grandchildren, Garrett , Connor, Maddox, and Mick Russell, Ava Mullins, Andrew, Colin, and Brylee Matthews, Francis Brockman and Silas Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Agnes (Venhaus) Brockman, wife Margaret (Schacher) of 65 years, siblings Regina Steffens and husband Ralph, Rita Bookand husband George, Tom Brockman, Phillip "Bip" Brockman, brother-in-law, James Wilhelm and daughter-in-law, Kathleen (Cogan) Brockman.
