Jerry Lou Cook, 80 of Amarillo, Texas passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 in Amarillo. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at 10:00AM in the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt with Coby Gilbreath officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00PM in Terrace Cemetery in Post, Texas with arrangements being under the care of Colonial Funeral Home. Family visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at the funeral home.
Jerry Lou (McLaurin) Cook was born on February 8, 1941 in Snyder, Texas to Raymond A. McLaurin and Ira (Duckworth) McLaurin. Jerry Lou grew up in Justiceburg, Texas as a child and then moved to Amarillo before graduating from Palo Duro High School. She went on to attend college at Tarleton State University and while there she began to barrel race. She went on to finish her degree from West Texas State University in education where she taught for several years up until her retirement. On June 4, 1987 she married Cliff Cook in Amarillo and soon after his retirement from Cliff Cook Golf Shop they began to travel to South Padre Island during the winter months. Jerry Lou began to play golf after she married Cliff and became a member of Ladies Golf in Dimmitt and that became one of her most loving hobbies along with a serious game of Bridge from time to time.
Jerry Lou is survived by her children, Todge Cameron and wife Georgia of Amarillo, Ray Cameron and wife Kristi of Panhandle and Ja Bridwell of Amarillo, brother, George McLaurin and wife Ruby of Wheeler, 7 grandchildren, Cody Cameron, Kristie Cameron, Jacob Cameron, Frankie Mayfield, Tucker Bridwell, Colt Smith and Brandi Pavone, 10 great-grandchildren along with 2 nieces.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cliff Cook, sister and brother in law, Syd and Hank Lynn.
