Jerry Matthews, 65, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019 in Lubbock, Texas. Private Family Graveside service will be held in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with a Celebration of Life Memorial Service being held Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11:00AM in the Fourth & Bedford Church of Christ with Mr. Bailey Chisum officiating with funeral arrangements being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at the funeral home.
Jerry Matthews was born on November 10, 1953 in Littlefield, Texas to J.R. Matthews and Mary Emma (Hurt) Matthews. Jerry grew up in Dimmitt and attended public schools. After graduation he attended law school and was an attorney in Castro County for many years while serving as District Attorney for Castro County for 8 of those years. Jerry loved spending time by the ocean and going on cruises to many different destinations. He was an avid Texas Tech fan and loved anything in relation to the university. During his spare time he loved going to steer shows watching his grandchildren show their calves throughout the years and also listening to music from Jimmy Buffett.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Eloyce Matthews of Dimmitt, TX, children, Tawnee Bicknell and husband Shawn of Cleburne, TX, Amber DeSimone and husband Jay of Dallas, TX, Taylor Matthews and wife Laura of Midlothian, TX, Cory Pointer of Olton, TX and Erik Flores and wife Lori of Plainview, TX, mother, Mary Emma Matthews of Dimmitt, TX, brother, Jackie Matthews and wife Debbie of Dimmitt, TX, 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Jerry is preceded in death by his father, J.R. Matthews.
