Jesus Velasquez, 88, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021 in Amarillo. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Arockiaraj Malapady, Deacon John Niño as celebrants. Burial will follow in the Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 5:00 PM on Friday with viewing from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Due to COVID 19 only (50) people are allowed in the funeral home at a time and face mask are required at both the funeral home and church. Your health and safety matter to us.

Jesus was born August 4, 1932 in Zacatecas, Mexico to Vicente and Juanita (Ramos) Velasquez. He married his wife Maria Santos on February 6, 1948 in Mexico and has been a resident of Dimmitt for 55 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Jesus spent 52 years working for Bud Hill Feedlot, starting out as a cowboy, he loved horses and taking care of things around the farm.

Jesus was a very sociable, hardworking, loving, and caring man. He enjoyed the holidays when his family would get together. He loved cookouts and eating watermelon. He also enjoyed smelling good, looking good and he always had a clean vehicle. He will be missed by many.

Those left to cherish his memories are his 7 children, Maria de Jesus Lopez and husband Andres of Dimmitt, Arturo Velasquez and wife Silvia, Hector Velasquez and wife Gloria all of Amarillo, Martha Correa and husband Salvador of Chicago, IL, Armando Velasquez and wife  Norma of Dimmitt, Oscar Velasquez and wife Blanca, Arturo Velasquez, Jr. and  wife Christy all of Amarillo, 25 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren, six brothers Miguel Velasquez and wife Sabina of Eagle Pass, Raul Velasquez, Ramon Velasquez both of Piedras Negras, Mexico, Guadalupe Velasquez and wife Bertha of Eagle Pass, Juan Velasquez and wife Irma of Piedras Negras, Mexico, and Manuel Velasquez and wife Anita of Dimmitt.

Jesus is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Santos Velasquez, his parents, one brother, Jose Maria Velasquez, 4 sisters, Carmen Bueno, Maria Perez, Josephina Velasquez, and Martha Velasquez.
