Jose "David" Gil Jr., 71, of Dimmitt passed away on August 16, 2016 in Dimmitt, TX surrounded by his family. Viewing will take place at the Palabras De Vida on Wednesday from 2:30PM -8:00PM and Thursday from 9:00AM-8:00PM. Funeral service will take place in the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt on August 19, 2016 at 2:00PM with Pastor Abel Vargas Jr. officiating and interment will follow in the Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the care and direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

Jose "David" Gil Jr. was born on January 22, 1945 in La Pryor, Texas to Jose Gil sr. and Sofia Saldana Gil. David started playing the accordian at age 11 and in 1961 he played in his first TV show in San Antonio. He moved to Dimmitt in 1965 and worked as a farmer. While working in agriculture, David worked for Leroy and JC Pohlmeier for many years and they were lifelong friends to the very end.   He met Maria Gil in Olton, Texas in 1969 and later they were married and resided in Dimmitt, Texas. In 1970, he formed his first band and named them Los Distintos Cinco with his brothers, his son and a close friend. He was a hard worker and loved his job. He enjoyed watching the WWE on television, but most importantly he loved being around his family.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Gil of Dimmitt, 5 sons, David Gil and wife Adela, Daniel Gil and wife Michelle, Julian Gil and wife Cassie, Jose Gil III, and Robert Gil all of Dimmitt, 7 daughters, Yvette Ramirez and husband Marcos of Mesquite, Diana Maes and husband Mark of Hereford, Leticia Gil of Abilene, Maria Gil and husband Mario of Hereford, Melissa Gil and husband Fabian, Debbie Gil and husband Mark and Dorothy Gil and husband Raul all of Dimmitt, 3 sisters, Lydia Vargas and husband Abel of Dimmitt, Sylvia Garcia and husband Jose of Dimmitt and Clemencia Rendon of Amarillo and 2 brothers, Mario Gil and Rene Gil both of Dimmitt and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

David is preceded in death by his parents.
