Zelpha June Davis, 88, of Hart, Texas passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022 in Lubbock. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 2:00PM at the First Baptist Church of Hart with Dr. Gene Meacham officiating. Burial will follow in Hart Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at the funeral home.
Zelpha June Davis (Rice) was born April 19, 1933. She was a lifelong resident of Castro County and Hart, TX until recently moving into the memory care center at Raider Ranch in Lubbock.
June was a member of First Baptist in Hart, went to school in Sunnyside and Hart, and was the fourth of five children that John and Zella Rice raised.
June married Doyle Davis on March 4, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico. They spent 65 years together before his passing in 2015. She spent her life as a homemaker, farmer's wife, and business owner. She was an amazing cook, owned and ran Exceptions Flower Shop, and also kept the books for Davis Aerial Sprayers.
June was a huge Lady Raider fan and hardly missed a game for 20 plus years starting in the mid 80's. Watching them beat Texas in Austin for the first time and cheering for the '93 National Championship team in Atlanta were her favorite moments as a fan.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Debbie Emery and husband Ted of Idalou as well as her grandchildren Coby Emery and wife Rhanda of Bovina, Clint and wife Leslianne of Texarkana, Arkansas and John Emery of Tempe, Arizona, as well as her four great grandchildren; Drake, Cole, Slade, and Brackston.
She was preceded in death by her son Phil in 1977, husband Doyle in 2015, as well as her parents John and Zella Rice, brothers L.J. and Royce Rice, and sisters Marian Stolcis and Virginia Myrick.
