Kenneth Don Heard, 90, of Nazareth, Texas passed away on Friday morning, November 10, 2017 in Lubbock, Texas.  Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00PM in the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt on Monday, November 13, 2017 with Pastor Jonathan Sullivan officiating.  Burial will follow in Littlefield Memorial Park Cemetery in Littlefield, Texas under the care of Colonial Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 4:00PM – 5:00PM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Kenneth Don Heard was born on July 31, 1927 in Littlefield, Texas to Daniel Blanton Heard and Norene (Clark) Heard.  Kenneth was a lifetime farmer and rancher and farmed until the day he passed away.  He received recognition for being a conservative farmer and believed water was the lifeline for agriculture.  He worked closely with the soil conservation service building terraces and tail water return systems on all his farms.  People would say he could get more out of less water than anyone they had ever seen.  He would get all the wet out of the water.  Kenneth was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt and a member of the Llano Estacado Emmaus Community.  He was a WWII Veteran while serving in the United States Navy.  He was very proud to have served his country at the end of the war.  He always said that the enemy heard that he was coming and surrendered!  Kenneth was an avid pheasant hunter and enjoyed taking people hunting while also enjoying bowling with his buddies and receiving a trophy for bowling a perfect game.  He never bragged about it but you could tell people respected him for his ability.  Kenneth never bragged on accomplishments, he believed a person could always do better.

Kenneth is survived by 3 sons, Emmett Heard and wife Elaine of Dimmitt, Ashley Heard of Canyon, and James Heard and wife Dee of Denton, 3 daughters, Delinda Flake and husband Lonnie of Amarillo, Cindy Walden and husband Steven of Lewisville, Dina Paetzold and husband Kennith of Taos, 1 brother, Dan Heard and wife Oma Dee of Sabine, 5 sisters, Lanita Dixon and husband Kenneth of Bonito, Jeanine Thompson of Littlefield, Doris Cullum of ?, Nelda Wooten of Houston and Janice McElroy and husband Cotton of Littlefield, 1 daughter-in-law, Jaime Heard of Austin, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth is preceded in death by his spouse Nona, 3 sons, Terrell Heard, Tony Heard and Kenneth Don Heard Jr. 1 brother and 1 sister.
