Laura Louise Mears, 96, passed away on October 16, 2012. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:30PM in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Reed Redus, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church in Amarillo officiating. Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home. Mrs. Mears was born on September 8, 1916, in Dawson County, Texas to J.F. and Lena Stokes. She graduated from Lamesa High School and then married F.J. Mears Jr. in 1935. The family moved to a farm south of Dimmitt, Texas in 1946. Louise resided in Dimmitt until she moved to Sunset Lutheran Home in Clifton, Texas in 2005. She then moved to Crestview Retirement Center in Bryan, Texas in 2012. While living in Dimmitt, she was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church in Dimmitt, an active member of the Senior Citizens, member of her Sunday school class, hospital auxiliary board and the local Garden Club. She also served several years on the board of the Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetry Association. She enjoyed gardening, reading, painting, and playing games. She and her husband were avid fisherman. Louise was very unselfish in her time and helping others. She always had a positive outlook on life and loved the years she spent in Dimmitt. Louise "Nanny" was much loved by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Gilbreath and husband Zay of College Station, a niece, Genell Craig of Dimmitt, three grandsons and eleven great-grandchildren.
