Laurence McLain, 88, of Hart passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in Dimmitt. Laurence was born May 22, 1922 in Lamb County, Texas to Ira and Angie McLain. Laurence grew up in the Hart community and graduated from Olton High School. He married Marguerite Bennett on September 16, 1942. He served in the United States Air Force entering 1942 through 1946. He served one of those years in Italy. He returned home and helped his father farm until his retirement. He and Marguerite lived in Springer and Hachita, New Mexico for a short period of time, they both enjoyed the people and places they lived and visited. Laurence was an honest, steadfast gentlemen, who had a great sense of humor and never minded a joke being pulled on him. He was a musician early in life and played the violin and bass violin. He was a member of the American Legion, and served on the Hart's City Council and was a member of the Hart Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife Marguerite McLain of Hart, a daughter-in-law, Linda Harmon of Hart; two grandchildren John Darryl McLain of Hart and Amy Lyn McLain of Portland, Oregon, one nephew Lonnie King. He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons Dennis Alan McLain and Darryl Lynn McLain and one daughter Lauren Elaine "Suzie" McLain, one sister, Marjorie King and one brother.
