Leroy Pohlmeier, 90, loved much and was much loved, of Nazareth passed away at his home Tuesday, August 19, 2014, surrounded by his loving children. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth with Rev. Ken Keller, Monsignor Harold Waldo, Deacon Bob Birkenfeld and Deacon Tom Pohlmeier officiating, burial to follow at Holy Family Cemetery in Nazareth. Rosary will be at 4:00 PM and Vigil services will be at 7:00 PM at the church. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Leroy was born on July 15, 1924 in Nazareth, Texas to the late John and Theresa Pohlmeier and was one of 13 children. He was raised in Nazareth and began his education in Nazareth. He married his great love, Dorothy Meta Stork, in 1946. He was a decorated WW II veteran, a long- time member of the American Legion, and the Nazareth Lions Club. Leroy was an open-handed, open-hearted, generous soul with a strong faith and conviction. All whom Leroy encountered he considered his neighbor. Leroy made a lasting impression on everyone he met with his charm, integrity and humor, which was only surpassed by the size of his heart. Leroy was a life-long Catholic and found great joy as a lector at Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth. Leroy will be remembered for his devotion to his family, strong work ethic and magnetic personality. Leroy's passion as a farmer and stockman was present throughout his entire life. One of the many fond memories Leroy's grandchildren and great grandchildren will always hold dear to their hearts, is when they had the opportunity to join Leroy in his pick-up as he went to check on his cows. The wisdom and stories their grandfather shared is a beautiful legacy Leroy has left for his family. His grandchildren will remember him for wagon rides behind the lawnmower, trying on his Stetson cowboy hat, "Spinning toe holds" and rides in his pick-up and golf cart. Leroy will forever be loved by those he left behind. He is survived by his 9 children J.C. Pohlmeier and his wife Jocelyn of Nazareth, Linda Kendrick and her husband Bob of Desoto; Pam Bogle and her husband Lyn of Centers, CO.; Brenda Conrad and her husband Tom of Colorado Springs, CO.; Monette Schilling and her husband Randy, Karen Schulte and her husband Greg, Jolene Schulte and her husband Dwayne and Lisa Pohlmeier all of Nazareth and Rachelle Wilcox and her husband Morris of Lubbock; 23 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy Meta Pohlmeier; his parents, grandson Chase Schulte; a son-in-law Leon Schulte, 9 brothers Alfred, Vincent, Raymond, Paul, Phillip, Edwin, Harold, Virgil and Carl, 3 sisters Max Acker, Leona Albracht and Virginia Pohlmeier.
