L. F. "Fate" Shannon, 94, of Amarillo died Thursday, August 25, 2011. Funeral services will be Monday, August 29, 2011 at The First United Methodist Church of Dimmitt at 10:00 AM with Rev. Derrel Evins officiating, burial will follow at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dimmitt. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Active Pallbearers are Kelly Christie, Colby Christie, Chad Christie, Will Shannon, Darrell Martin, Justin Murphy, Billy Neal Shannon and Rocky Wright. Honorary Pallbearers are Floyd Shannon, Henry Shannon, Billy Shannon, Doyle Shannon, R.W. Bull, Lloyd Veazey, Monty Boozer, Donnie Martin, Johnnie Shannon, Denzel Murphy, Lori Sprock, Rhonda Wilshire, Willis Duggan and George Sides. Fate Shannon was born March 1, 1917 in Denton County to James Luther and Hester Jane Shannon. He married the love of his life Dorothy Sinclair in Clovis, New Mexico in 1941. They lived mostly in Dimmitt and Hereford, moving to Amarillo in 2000. They were married sixty-seven years. Fate loved his family and all of his many friends. Fate was a farmer and a member of St. Stephens First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the VFW Post #430, American Legion, a former member of the Easter Lions Club, ASC office and director of Texas Farm Bureau. He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Christie and husband Jimmy of Dallas; three sons David Shannon and wife Ann of Borger; Ken Shannon and wife Linda of Dimmitt and Ray Shannon and wife Carolyn of Boerne. Two brothers Floyd Shannon of Amarillo and Henry Shannon of Phelan, California. A loving extended family, Sue and Monty Boozer and Carolyn and George Sides all of Dimmitt. Nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 2008, a daughter Linda in 1944; two grandchildren; four sisters and six brothers.
