Lometa Odom, 83, of Amarillo but formerly of Dimmitt, passed away Friday, January 27, 2017 in Amarillo.

Lometa was born November 29, 1933 in Washington, Oklahoma to David Hiram and Opal Lee (Millican) Odom. Lometa had been a resident of Dimmitt since 1948. She graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1952, being named three times All State Basketball player. She attended and graduated from Wayland Baptist University in 1956. While attending Wayland she played in the Pan American Games and she and the team won the gold in 1955. She was also honored with being named four times, All American. Lometa was a basketball coach and teacher for several surrounding towns; Gruver, Spearman, Whitedeer and Plainview, thirty-seven years of teaching and coaching. She was a member of the PTA, the National Science Association and the Texas Coaches Association. In 1967 she was inducted into the Helms Hall of Fame, in 1970 she was inducted into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame, in 1983 she was inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Association and in 1992 she was inducted into the Wayland Baptist Hall of Honor. In 2000 Lometa was named as one of the top 100 athletes in the Panhandle and in 2011 she was inducted into the National Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

She is survived by her two sisters; Margaret Parks of Corpus Christi and Danna Beck of Amarillo; three nieces; Amy Bell of Canyon, Susan Parks of Corpus Christi and Shelley Parks-Arnecke of Austin and one nephew, Brad Beck of Mansfield. Numerous cousins and eight great nieces and nephews
