Lucy Casares' Obituary
Lucy Casares, 65, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018 in Dimmitt. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, November 30, 2018 in the Immaculate Conception of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Arockiaraj Malapady, Deacon John Niño and Deacon Richard Martinez as celebrants. Burial will follow in Hart Cemetery under the direct care of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Rosary will be recited at 6:00PM on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the funeral home located at 809 Butler, Dr., Dimmitt, Texas 79027.
Lucy was born on July 28, 1953 in South Bend Indiana to Gilbert Guzman and Rafaela (Anzualda) Guzman. Lucy married Jerry Casares on December 5, 1970 and they were happily married for 48 years. Lucy worked in the banking industry for many years prior to her retirement. Lucy had an avid affection for all crafting hobbies. She loved creating quilts for her family, needle work, and especially scrap-booking. Lucy was also an avid reader and loved to learn. She loved to spend time at bookstores and libraries, especially Rhoads Memorial Library in Dimmitt. She was well versed in classical and modern authors from around the world and had a substantial book collection to support her passion. She had a special interest in helping others realize their full potential and encouraged others to do their best in any of their adventures. She would often volunteer at the school and through her church. She loved to travel with her family and especially visits to Arlington to see her son Mark and to St. Louis to visit her granddaughter, Anastasia. She would collect sewing thimbles from all of her travel destinations. Ultimately, Lucy loved everyone and wanted the best for them. She thrived to make everyone feel important and special for just being themselves.
Lucy is survived by her husband, Jerry Casares of Dimmitt, son, Mark Casares and Valerie of Arlington, brothers, Gilbert Guzman of Amarillo, Paul Guzman and wife Maria of Dumas and Joe Guzman and wife Gloria of Kress, sisters, Geneva Saenz of Dumas and Vicki Guzman of Amarillo, and granddaughter, Anastasia Casares.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, son, Robert Wayne Casares, brother, Ernest Guzman, and sisters, Isabelle Saenz, Penny Guzman and Nelda Carter.
