Maria Santos Velasquez 86, of Dimmitt, died Friday May 27, 2016 in Amarillo. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Dimmitt with Reverend Raj Arockia, Celebrant. Burial to follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dimmitt, Texas. A Prayer Vigil and Rosary will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at 6:00 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas.

Maria was born on April 1, 1930 in Mexico to Manuel and Brigida (Perez) Reyes. Maria married Jesus Velasquez in Mexico on February 6, 1948 and later that year moved to Dimmitt. She worked in agriculture for many years and was a homemaker, she was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a Guadalupana. She loved to cook and feed her family which made her very happy, she always made sure her children were clean and that their clothes were all ironed. Maria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her Parents, 2 brothers: Manuel Reyes and Guadalupe Reyes, 2 sisters: Josefina Reyes and Leonor Reyes, 2 grandchildren: Yolanda Velasquez and Mark Anthony Velasquez and 2 great grandchildren: Kadence Velasquez and Maria Alicia Pacheco.

She is survived by her husband: Jesus Velasquez of Dimmitt, 2 daughters: Maria de Jesus Lopez and husband, Andres of Dimmitt, TX, Martha Velasquez Correa and husband, Salvador of Chicago, Illinois, 5 sons: Arturo Velasquez and wife, Silvia of Amarillo, TX, Hector Velasquez and wife, Gloria of Amarillo, TX, Armando Velasquez and wife, Norma of Dimmitt,TX, Oscar Velasquez and wife, Blanca of Amarillo, TX, and Art Velasquez, Jr. and wife, Christy of Amarillo, TX, 24 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren.
