Mary Ciria Valdez Escamilla, 101, of Hereford and former resident of Dimmitt, TX and Portales, NM passed away on June 20, 2012 in Hereford. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dimmitt with Rev Joseph Ravi officiating. Burial will be in Elida Cemetery in Elida New Mexico at 1:30 CST under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home. Mary was born to Jose Ignacio Valdez and Catarina Barela on April 8, 1911 at Folsom, Union County, New Mexico. She was raised in the Branson, Trinchera and Trinidad, Colorado area. She married Ciriaco Escamilla on her birthday on April 8, 1930 in Trinidad. They lived in Colorado, New Mexico and Texas. They moved back to New Mexico in the late 1960's settling in Portales, New Mexico. Mary enjoyed quilting, canning, tending to her garden and livestock. She loved to cook for her family and numerous visitors to the Escamilla household. She moved to Dimmitt, Texas to live with her granddaughter Marie Yolanda Rivera on February 2006. She was past resident of Castro County Nursing and Rehab in Dimmitt and at the time of her passing was a resident of Kings Manor Westgate in Hereford, Texas. Mary was a member of the Immaculate Conception of Mary Catholic Church in Dimmitt. Mary is survived by 6 daughters, Maria Santistevan (Celestino) of Trinidad, CO, Julia Escamilla of Denver, CO, Rosa Longoria of Canyon, Beatrice Gilstrap of Canyon, Donna Medina of Fresno, CA, and Marie Rey of Fresno, CA, 1 son, Lorenzo Escamilla of Amarillo, her granddaughters, Marie (Sal) Rivera of Dimmitt and Louise Santistevan of Amarillo and numerous other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ciriaco Escamilla, 1 son, Tomas V. Escamilla, 1 brother Carlos Valdez and 3 grandchildren, James Santistevan, Patricia Santistevan Reyes and Richard Cano.
