Melvin Leon Collins, 76, of Earth, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2018 in Longview, Texas.  Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 10:00AM in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Jerry Kendrick officiating.  Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

Melvin Leon Collins was born on August 7, 1941 in Amherst, Texas to Forrest Floyd Collins and Margaret (Scheller) Collins.  Leon grew up in southwest Castro County and attended Springlake schools.  He then went on and served in the United States Navy.  After returning he farmed in Castro County for many years.  In 1984, Leon married Patti Collins.  Leon enjoyed working on clocks and lamps as well as guns and knives.

Leon is survived by his wife Patti Collins of Earth, 7 children, Edith Jalayne Moss of Tulsa, OK, Tina Menefee of Goshen, IN, Leah Tims of Hugo, OK, Dana Trevino of Carlsbad, NM, Richard Walters of Dimmitt, TX, Daniel Walters of Gilmer, TX and Alfred Walters of Kilgore, TX, 1 brother Johnny Collins of Earth, TX, 1 aunt, Elaine Wright of Wichita Falls, TX, 21 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.

Leon is preceded in death by his parents, Forrest Floyd Collins and Margaret (Scheller) Collins.
