Mike Baca's Obituary
Mike Baca, 71, of Vega, Texas passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, surrounded by loved ones in Amarillo, Texas. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 in the First United Methodist Church at 1:00PM with Rev. T.C. Broom officiating. A private family burial will follow with funeral arrangements being held by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 6:00PM to 7:00PM at the funeral home.
Mike Baca was born on December 8, 1946 in Navasota, Texas to Raymond Albert Baca and Doris (Fuqua) Baca. While attending Texas Tech University, Mike met the love of his life, Jan Willis, and the couple eloped to Juarez, Mexico and married February 10, 1969. This February 10, 2019 would mark 50 years of marriage for the beloved couple. After marrying, Mike and Jan returned to Dimmitt, TX where he started the family feedlot, Rafter 3 Feedlot LLC. Mike was a hardworking business man, successful rancher and cattleman. In years past, Mike has enjoyed working alongside with his sons and grandchildren on the beautiful family ranches. He has touched the surrounding family, friends, community, and has carved a trail from hard work and dedication. In his honor, The Mike Baca Memorial Scholarship Fund has been created. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be sent to the Texas Tech Foundation for the Mike Baca Memorial Scholarship, P.O. Box 45025, Lubbock, TX 79409-5025.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Jan (Willis) Baca, 2 sons, Brant Baca and wife Michelle and Tye Baca and wife Julia, all who reside upon the family ranch, 2 brothers, Pat Baca of Iola, TX and Jeff Baca and wife Neneng of Houston, TX , 1 sister, Paula Schwartz and husband Tommy of Taylor, TX, along with his colorful legacy including 5 grandchildren, Jayton Baca (23), Colton Baca (20), Jake Baca (17), Lexie Baca (15) and Trenton Baca (12 ) along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Albert Baca and Doris Baca and reunited with them in Heaven.
