Owen K. (Pete) Stewart, 91, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022 in Dimmitt. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 10:30AM at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Jonathan Sullivan officiating. Graveside Service will be held at 4:00PM in Snyder Cemetery in Snyder, Texas. The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at Colonial Funeral Home located at 809 Butler Blvd., Dimmitt, Texas.
Owen K. (Pete) Stewart was born on May 22, 1930 in Hitchcock, Oklahoma to Harold M. Stewart and Sarah Rebecca (Sheridan) Stewart. Pete grew up on a farm and worked with family and neighbors including wheat harvest as a teenager. He graduated from Ringwood High School in 1948 and then attended Oklahoma A&M University for 2 years. On September 6, 1950 he joined the United Air Force and served at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and later in Korea with the Air Intelligence Service Group. While serving in the Air Force, Pete received the National Defense Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on December 1953. He began working for Natural Gas Company in 1954 and then transferred to the Sulfur Plant in Lehman in 1964 and then to Dimmitt in 1967. After his retirement in the late 1990's he was a consultant for Goodpasture, Inc. now known as Dimmitt Sulfur. Pete married Darla Brotherton on November 18, 1966 in Morton, Texas. Before joining the First Baptist Church he was a faithful member of Lee Street Baptist Church for over 40 years serving as Sunday School teacher, treasurer and various committees.
Pete enjoyed traveling in an RV, gardening and many do-it-yourself projects, raising cattle, goats, sheep, chickens, guineas, honeybees and fruit and nut trees. He was a very loving and generous man and was always ready to help anyone in need.
Survivors include his wife, Darla Stewart of Dimmitt, TX, daughter, Pam Rowe and husband Bill of Plains, TX and son, Brian Stewart and wife Jill of Brenham, TX along with 4 granddaughters, Lyndi Morton and husband Jared of Panhandle, TX, Lesli Marcee and husband John of Ovalo, TX, Allison Stewart of College Station, TX and Paige Stewart of Brenham, TX, great grandson, Knox Marcee of Ovalo, TX and brother, Billy Stewart of California along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Janet Stewart along with 4 brothers, 2 sisters.
