Quincy Hawkins, 67, of Hart, Texas passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018 in Lubbock. Memorial services will be Monday, October 15, 2018 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel at 10:30 AM with Pastor Perry Hunsaker officiating. Arrangements and cremation have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

Quincy was a lifelong resident of Hart and loved the Hart Community. He was a member of the Hart Lions Club for many years. He was a mechanic most of his life and was a very good one. He loved to tinker, take things apart and put them back together. In summer months, he knew how important irrigation was to most of his farmers, so if a well motor went down, Quincy could tear one apart, overhaul and get it back to running in record time. Farmers appreciated his speed and accuracy in keeping them going. He loved the land, what it could grow and what it could produce. Years ago, Quincy, his brother and a couple of friends starting growing a very large garden. Those guys had so much fun with the growing that they started canning, freezing, preserving and utilizing every bit of their bounty. Sue never had to worry about slaving over a hot stove in mid-summer canning, no; Quincy and his cohorts took care of that. Just before frost, everything left in the garden was pickled, one way or the other. Up until the last few years, Quincy and Dub still made Wild Plum Jelly every year. Quincy loved his boys and loved all the activities they participated in, sports, FFA, and stock shows. Whatever they did, he supported them. Equally, he loved his two granddaughters. After raising the boys, he would shake his head in wonder at the glitter, the sparkle, the dress-up clothes and the dolls. He delighted in making things for the girls, his last project being a huge, foldable doll house for each girl. Quincy was very tolerant of all the dogs Sue brought home from the shelter to "foster" for a short while and he even fell in love with a few of them. When an older dog would be lost due to old age or bad health, he would cry as much as Sue. He would then build a casket for each one and bury them with love. Quincy was simple; he didn't like a lot of flash or fancy stuff. He just liked being Quincy.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Sue Hawkins of Hart; two sons Jeremy Hawkins and wife Robin of Lubbock and Justin Hawkins of New Orleans; his father Willis Hawkins, Jr. and his wife Rosalie of Canyon; a brother W.A. Hawkins III of Hart; two sisters Gaylene Reinart and husband Wayne of Hereford and Suzanne Henderson and husband Tim of Amarillo; two granddaughters Elizabeth Barclay of Happy and Pearcy Hawkins of Lubbock. He is preceded in death by his mother Johnnie Marie Hawkins.
