Ray M. Bain of Dimmitt went to be with his heavenly father on July 2, 2013. He was surrounded by his family and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Kenneth Cleveland Gymnasium at Dimmitt High School in Dimmitt, Texas with Rev. Rance Young and Dr. Silas Short officiating. A reception celebrating the life of Mr. Bain will be held at the First United Bank Lone Star Room in Dimmitt immediately following his service. A private burial will be held at the Bain Family Cemetery located on the Bain Ranch in Floyd, County Texas. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Ray was born December 7, 1937 in Plainview, Texas. He graduated from Plainview High School and attended West Texas State University. He married Barbara Lewis on June 14, 1957 and they recently celebrated 56 years of marriage. Ray began his full-time banking career in 1960 in Plainview, Texas. His banking career spanned 53 years primarily in the Texas Panhandle and South Plains of Texas. He served as President and CEO of First United Bank from 1987-2013. He was a well-known pillar in banking and a strong and devoted community leader. In 2012, Ray was recognized with the Panhandle/South Plains Bankers Association Distinguished Banker Award and was recently honored by his peers with the Texas Bankers Association 50 Year Banker Award. His philanthropy has been recognized by numerous entities including having received the Pinnacle and Legacy Awards at WEST Texas A&M University. Ray was also actively involved and recognized for his civic efforts which included being recognized as Citizen of the Year in Perryton, Texas and Citizen of the Year and Citizen Through the Years in Dimmitt, Texas Ray received what he termed "one of the biggest highlights of my life" recently when West Texas A&M President Dr. J. Patrick O'Brien presented him with an honorary Doctorate of business Administration Degree. Ray was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Son Seekers Sunday School class in Dimmitt, Texas. Ray enjoyed watching his 8 grandchildren participate in various activities, including participation in FFA livestock shows and playing baseball. He also loved working at the family Ranch. He loved his fellow "Stars" of First United Bank. Survivors include his wife Barbara of the home in Dimmitt; one daughter Nancy Seybert and her husband Jim of Perryton and their children Miles (26), of Lubbock and Jacy (23), of Oklahoma City; two sons, Mark Bain and his wife Heather of Lubbock and their children Ryan (14), Brayden (12), and Raegan (9), all of Lubbock; Mike Bain of Canyon and his children Rhett (16), Lexie (14), and Raylee (10), all of Canyon; a brother Hugh Mack Bain and his wife Peggy of Plainview and family; sister-in-law Janet Bain and her daughter Shanna Pritchard and family of Plainview; brother-in-law Bob Lewis and his wife Ann of Fairfax, Virginia and a sister-in-law Nina Landers and her husband Bob Landers of Muleshoe and family. He is preceded in death by his parents, George D. Bain and Irene Ritchey Bain; father-in-law and mother-in-law Barnie Lewis and Artie "Jack" Lewis; a brother William Bain; nieces Kathy Landers Bostick and Kristy Landers; and a nephew Clifton Pinnell.
