Richard (Dick) Schacher, 78, of Dimmitt, Texas passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, in Westminster, Colorado.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 10:00AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father David Contreras and Father Arockiaraj Malapady as celebrants. Burial will follow in Nazareth at Holy Family Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 4:00PM - 6;00PM with rosary being recited at 7:00PM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Richard was born on September 2, 1944, in Tulia, Texas, to Alfred and Frances (Drerup) Schacher. He graduated from Nazareth High School in 1963 and later earned a business bachelor's degree from Wayland Baptist University in 1988.

Richard served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1968 as a Staff Sergeant. He married Shirley Acker on February 22, 1968, in Nazareth, Texas at Holy Family Catholic Church. Soon after he attended Aircraft Mechanic School in Broomfield, Colorado.

Richard worked as an aircraft mechanic at General Dynamics in Fort Worth from 1969-1971. Then moved to Holly Colorado for a couple of years to work on a farm with family. Richard and Shirley moved back to Dimmitt in 1973, and Richard worked at the Corn Wet Milling Plant for thirty-plus years and then went on to work for the Texas Highway Department for 6 years.

Richard was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the VFW, the American Legion and a Boy Scout leader.

He enjoyed traveling, singing in the church choir, and playing golf; but his greatest joy was his grandchildren and spending time with them. He attended many Hockey Games to watch them play. Richard was patriotic, always had a quip for everything and a smile on his face.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Shirley Schacher of Dimmitt, Texas; son, Wayne Schacher and his wife Elizabeth of Westminster, Colorado, three grandchildren, Kayla Schacher, Rianna Schacher, and Gage Schacher; and three siblings, Irene Acker and husband Denis of Amarillo, Texas, Viola Melcher and husband Calvin of Holly, Colorado, and Harold Schacher of Haltom City, Texas, brother-in-law, Francis Acker and wife Bea of Dimmitt, Texas, sister-in-law, Diane Adams and husband Monte of Mesquite, Texas along with several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Frances Schacher, and an infant brother Thomas Schacher and sister-in-law, Linda Schacher.
