Richard Henry Westra, 79, passed away on May 19, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. at First Methodist Church of Hereford on Friday, June 7, 2024, with Reverend Rusty Dickerson officiating. The Westra family has entrusted Arrangements and Services to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

Richard was born on December 16, 1944, in Artesia, California to Henry and Hilda Westra. He was raised in Bellflower, California, on the family dairy. Richard attended Valley Christian High and he met the love of his life Joan Hibma at the Hodies Drive-In. They got married on December 11, 1970. Together they raised a beautiful family on their family dairy that Richard operated with his father and brother in Chino, California. In 2005 Richard moved his dairy to Portales, New Mexico and continued his family business in running a successful dairy.

Richard had a strong work ethic, he enjoyed early mornings at the local Hay Lot with friends, making jokes. He enjoyed his cup of tea at 3:00 P.M. with his loved ones, talking business. He loved to spend time fishing and trap shooting, gun trading, and he attended the all-American State Shooter.

Those left to carry on his legacy are his loving children, Roger Henry Westra of Clovis, New Mexico, Angie Marie (Westra) Osterkamp of Nazareth, Texas; his caring grandchildren, Alishia Joan Osterkamp, Bridget Ann Osterkamp both of Nazareth, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Those preceding him in passing are his wife, Joan Westra; his parents, Henry Westra and Hilda Westra; his daughter, Shannon Westra Southfield; his sibling's, Tillie Verbree, Jenny Buschma, Henrietta Bruinsma, Raymond Westra.
