Roy Paul Murphy, 78, of Lubbock formerly of Dimmitt passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in Lubbock. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM at the Fourth and Bedford Church of Christ in Dimmitt with Mr. James Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home. Family and friend visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00PM at the funeral home. Roy Paul Murphy was born May 24, 1935 in Castro County, Texas to William Andrew and Ola Thompson Murphy. He grew up in Dimmitt and he graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1953. Roy loved his classmates and served as Class Vice President his senior year. In 1959 he was drafted to the United States Army where he served in Germany. He stayed in the United States Army Reserve after being discharged. He attended West Texas State University. He married Marguerite Turner in 2001. He worked for Wright Grocery Store in Dimmitt, Wayne's Food in Plainview and McClain's Super Market in Hale Center all as a meat butcher and retired in 1998. He enjoyed watching sports on T.V., was an avid Texas Longhorn's Fan, and he loved to travel. He is survived by his wife Marguerite McWilliams of Lubbock; 1 daughter Diane Brownlee and husband Brandon of Plainview; a step-daughter Jennifer Pruitt of Lubbock; a step-daughter Donna Whitsitt of Plainview, 2 brothers, Ray Murphy of Amarillo and Fawayne Murphy of Astoria, NY, 3 grandchildren Brandt Brownlee of Ft Worth, Braden Brownlee of Midland and Katelynn Brownlee of Plainview; 1 step-granddaughter Bethany Pruitt of Lubbock, 2 step-grandsons, Justin Whitsitt of Weatherford and James Owen Whitsitt of Arlington, 5 step-greatgrandchildren. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers Dr. Bill Murphy and John Murphy; 3 half-sisters Ada Chandler, Mary Alfreda Edwards and Vivilene Duke and 4 half-brothers Vance Murphy, Edgar Frank Murphy, Verdie Murphy and William Andrew Murphy.
