Sam Ramirez 71, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 in Dimmitt. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception of Mary Catholic Church in Dimmitt with Rev. Raj Arockia and Rev. Ken Keller officiating, burial to follow at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Rosary will be held on Sunday evening at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Sam was born January 28, 1943 in Clodine, Texas to Marguerito and Juana Christan Ramirez. Sam has been a resident of Dimmitt since 1965. He was a heavy equipment operator for several businesses in town including; Dickey Dozer; Hyman Fertilizer, Good Pasture and Charlie Lane. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception of Mary Catholic Church, he was a Black Belt in Karate, and he was a security guard for many functions in Dimmitt. He enjoyed playing poker, fishing, he was a community baseball player, he did the Demolition Derby Races and he was an avid Dallas Cowboy Fan. Sam liked to have a good time and enjoy life. He was a great family man. He is survived by his wife, Janie Ramirez of Dimmitt; a son Sammy Ramirez, Jr. of Austin; 4 daughters Christina Luna and Irene Morales both of Austin and Rosa Jimenez and Rachel Ramirez both of Dimmitt; 2 step-sons Jessie Bernal, Jr. and Christopher Bernal both of Abilene, 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and 4 brothers and 1 sister.
