Santos L. Martinez, Sr. 84, of Dimmitt passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019 in Dimmitt. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 2:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Celebrant Monsignor Arturo Mesa and Deacons Richard Martinez, John Niño and Paul Herrera, burial to follow at Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt, Texas. Rosary and vigil will be Monday evening at 7:00 PM at the church. Viewing will begin on Monday at 1:00 PM at the church.
Santos was born February 17, 1935 in Campbellton, Texas to Jose and Florencia (Lopez) Martinez. Santos was raised in Dimmitt. He married Esther Gonzales on August 23, 1958. He was a self-employed truck driver for many years. Santos loved to dance, collecting coins, working in his yard and tending to his roses, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. Santos was a humble and kind man, he believed in order to be prosperous you must be diligent in seeing others prosper. He was great at giving a helping hand. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was very active in the church. Santos never left his home without his hat and sports coat on.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Santos Martinez, Jr. and his wife Rosa of Albany, Texas, Ricardo Martinez and his wife Bonnie of Dimmitt, Texas, Nick Martinez and his wife Elsa of Canyon, Texas and Bobby Martinez of Dimmitt; two daughters Norma Velasquez and her husband Armando and Nora Quiroz and her husband Jesus all of Dimmitt; four brothers Genaro Martinez of Lubbock, Texas, Jose Angel Martinez and his wife Maricela of Ft. Morgan, CO., Lalo Martinez of Dimmitt, Texas and Johnny Martinez of Reno, Nevada and four sisters Anita Carranco of Lubbock, Texas, Lucia Fuentes and her husband Pedro of Lehigh, FL., Maria Falcon of Dimmitt, Texas and Rebecca Davis and husband Tommy of Abernathy, Texas; 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Santos is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Esther Martinez, two brothers Benny and Margarito Martinez and a sister Sara Aguirre.
