Shelly Rice, 62, of Dimmitt, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2013 in Lubbock. Public graveside service will be held on Monday at 10:00AM in the Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Dimmitt with a Celebration of Life Memorial service being held at 2:00PM in the Hereford Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ted Taylor officiating. Local arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Family visitation will be held on Sunday from 6:00PM - 8:00PM at Colonial Funeral Home. Shelly was born on September 3, 1951 in Dimmitt, TX to Jimmie and Floyce George. She graduated Dimmitt High School and then went to Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1974 and began her nursing career for 33 years. She worked for Odyssey Hospice for 4 years. She enjoyed be a "Gran" to her granddaughters and attending their activities as well as donating her time to her church work and teaching Sunday school while being a member of the Hereford Church of the Nazarene. During her free time she also enjoyed making flower arrangements and watching basketball. Shelly is survived by her husband Danny Rice of Dimmitt, 2 daughters, Tisha Gerber and husband Marty of Nazareth and Brandi Rice and husband John Foley of Denver, CO, 1 son, Ramey Rice and wife Michelle of Dimmitt, 4 granddaughters, Blakely, Merry, and Kattey Gerber of Nazareth and Annabelle Rice of Dimmitt and a host of close family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, 1 daughter, Cleta Rice and a sister, Bonnie George.
