Shirley Ann Barnes, 82, of Lubbock, Texas, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 28 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Hart, Texas with Pastor Les Reed and Pastor Gene Meacham officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:00 PM at the Childress Cemetery in Childress, Texas. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Family and friend visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 -7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Shirley was born in Childress, Texas on January 5, 1935 to Donald and Laura Carl Crook. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor's Degree and later got her Masters in Education from West Texas State University. She was married to Frank Barnes on June 22, 1957. Shirley taught business in Hermleigh, Texas for 13 years. In 1969, the family moved to Hart where she taught English before becoming a Certified Public Counselor for the Hart and Nazareth schools. She retired in 2000. Shirley touched the lives of many students and families. Shirley was an avid Texas Tech fan and held season tickets to many sports. Shirley loved following her grandsons' activities and was always a part of their lives. She was the youngest of eight children and very devoted to her large family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hart and a Member of Castro County Retired Teachers Association.

Those left to cherish her wonderful memories are her son, Brad Barnes and his wife Karen of Hart, her daughter, Lori Ann Barnes of Grapevine, Texas, her son, Clay Barnes and his wife Hunter of Las Vegas, Nevada, her grandsons, Tim Barnes and his wife Mallory and their son Luke of Lubbock, Trevor Barnes of Slaton, Texas, and Trent Barnes of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by three sisters, Mildred Allen of Denton, Texas, Jo Thomas of Lubbock, Lois Smith and her husband Dean of Moore, Oklahoma, and one brother, Don Ray Crook of Childress, Texas. She also has many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Barnes, one sister, Maxine Gale, two brothers, Jay Malloy and Harold Malloy, and her parents, Donald and Laura Crook.
