Steven Kent Birdwell was born on May 9, 1954 to James Kent and Mary Jo Birdwell in Dimmitt, Texas. He passed away on June 13, 2014 at the age of 60 from cancer in Lubbock, TX. Funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00PM in the First United Methodist Church in Dimmitt with Rev. T.C. Broom officiating. Burial will follow in Castro Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. Family visitation will be held on Sunday from 5:00PM - 7:00PM at the funeral home. Steve attended Dimmitt schools and earned degrees from Amarillo College and South Plains College. He loved music and lived in Nashville for many years. He wrote music and played many instruments. His last three years were spent caring for his parents. His father died in January of this year. He played the fiddle many times for the residents of Dimmitt Nursing Home and regularly for services at the Methodist Church where he was a long time member. His music and his kindness will be missed by many. Steve is survived by his mother, Mary Jo Birdwell of Dimmitt, 1 brother, Russel Birdwell of Dimmitt, 2 sisters, Paula Jo Bradford of Canyon and Karen Barron of Austin and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces and a special friend, Debi Williams of Nashville.
