Sue Sheffy Merritt, 84, of Amarillo formerly of Dimmitt, passed away, Friday, March 4, 2011 in Amarillo. Graveside Service will be at 1:00PM, Monday with Memorial Services following at the First United Methodist Church of Dimmitt at 2:00 PM with Reverends Rusty Dickerson and Derrel Evins officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. She is survived by one son Johnny Merritt and his wife DeNise of Amarillo; two daughters Amy Parson and her husband Kelvin of Wolfforth and Suzanne Lunt and her husband Harry of Sunray. One daughter-in-law Connie Merritt of Dimmitt, one sister Anne Webster of Grass Valley, CA. eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Two special family members Brad and Ellen Hughes. She is preceded in death by her husband John Merritt and one son Lint Merritt, one brother Ray Sheffy, Jr. Sue was born May 14, 1926 in Dimmitt, Texas to Ray and Pearl Sheffy .She grew up in Dimmitt and graduated from Dimmitt High School in 1943. She was a graduate of West Texas State University in 1947 with a degree in Speech, while at West Texas State University she served as Homecoming Queen. She married John Merritt in Dimmitt on February 8, 1948. She was a lifelong supporter and caregiver to her husband John and her family as well as the community. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dimmitt, she was active in many organizations through her community. She was a very loving mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
