Travis E. Hampton's Obituary
Travis Earl Hampton, Sr., also affectionately known as Daddy and Papa, was called
home by his Heavenly Father on July 3, 2018, in Dimmitt, Texas at the age of 82,
surrounded by his family. Travis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanette; his
children: Johnny and Sharon Hampton and Tonya and Jackie Ethridge; his
grandchildren: Shane and Tanya Ethridge, Mindi and Cam McLain, Jordan and Tyler
Thurston, Brittany and Clay Roberts, and Nicole and Brig Gerlich; and his great-
grandchildren: Lexy, Tripp, Rhett, Tinsley, Tate, Tess, and Clyde. He is also survived by
his and Jeanette's siblings, Twila Sawyer, Carolyn and Jerry Watts, John and Connie
Cox, Jerry and Flo Cox, and Joyce and Larry Skaggs. Travis was preceded in death by
his parents Earl and Gladys Hampton and his beloved son Travis Hampton, Jr. Born
near Halfway and raised in Littlefield, Travis and Jeanette moved to Dimmitt in 1963,
where they raised their family, farmed their land, and invested in their community. Travis Loved his family and friends and would do anything for them! He served the Lord with all his heart and faithfully attended the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt for many years.Travis always worked very hard to provide for his family and to keep his farm tidy.
Armed with his trusty shovel, he eradicated any weed he ever came across. With Earl,
then Travis, then Travis Jr., and now Shane, this family has farmed in the Texas
Panhandle for over 80 years. Travis would want you to know that his work here on earth
is finally done. In his final months, he waited patiently but with peace to meet the Lord
and to be reunited with his family and friends in heaven. Please join us as we celebrate
his life this week. The family looks forward to visiting with you on Thursday, July 5,
2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home (809 Butler Blvd, Dimmitt, Texas).On Friday, July 6, 2018, graveside services will be held at 9:30 am at Littlefield
Memorial Park (1700 E. Delano, Littlefield, Texas), followed by a private family lunch,
and then a memorial service at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Dimmitt (1201
Western Circle Drive, Dimmitt, Texas). The family would like to thank the Accolade
Hospice employees, from the bottom of our hearts, for helping take such great care of
him these past few weeks. In lieu of flowers, Travis requested that donations be given to the giver's favorite charity.
